RAR #86: 5 Authors and Illustrators You Might Not Know About (But Probably Want To!)

Today, I’m hoping to tell you about some authors/illustrators you may not have heard about before!

These aren’t necessarily new authors, but they may be new to you.

In this episode, you’ll hear:

  • picture books, middle grade books and even books for your tweens and teens – I’m covering ALL the bases!
  • graphic novel suggestions that you’ll approve of (and that your kids will like)
  • a couple of favorites from our house, including one book that my 5-year-old carried around for weeks
  • plus (admittedly, my favorite part) my 4-year-old twins chatting about a book we often read 3 times in a row

A couple takeaways from this episode …

  • “Nobody Likes a Goblin is one of the best ways I know to calm my little kids when they’re throwing a fit.” Have tried Sarah’s trick yet? When a little one is melting down, grab a book and start reading – don’t announce; don’t ask. Just read, and wait for the story to do its magic.

  1. This last November I found a series of religious graphic novels called “The Adventures of Loupio” through our local church Eureka virtual book fair. I have not read them yet since they are recommended to ages 7 – 10 and mine are 6 years, but they have 5 star reviews in Amazon and this is the book review: Meet the orphaned Loupio, a young troubadour, who becomes friends with Brother Francis and with the wolf tamed by the Saint. During his adventures Loupio learns what it means to be holy. As the seeds of faith, hope, and charity take root in Loupio, they’re sure to grow in your young reader’s heart as well. This story follows Loupio as he discovers the value of friendship and honesty during a breathtaking medieval tournament! I don’ t see how can you go wrong with a story like this. I can’t wait to read this with my boys!

  2. Your podcast is great. The reviews of the books by the children is a great touch. They are so bold to speak about what they like about each book. I am a grandma and my Little ones are still young but they have inspired me to write a children’s picture book. I hope to hear my book reviewed one day soon on your podcast by my little ones!! Coming this spring.

  3. My oldest son (10) came across Mighty Jack and instantly fell in love. He brought it home and then my younger son (7) was hooked. We have now read ALL of Ben Hatke’s books from our library, picture books to graphic novels. My boys have read the Zita series over and over again! I love discovering new established authors!!
