In today’s episode of the Read-Aloud Revival Podcast, I’m sharing a master class straight out of Read-Aloud Revival Premium about how to create a book club culture in your home.

For most of us, the books we read for school growing up were not the same books we read under our covers with a flashlight past our bedtime.

But we can do something better.

We can invite our kids into a reading experience that will help them fall in love with books and become readers for life.

Less like school, more like your favorite book club.

In this episode, you’ll hear:

  • the importance of knowing WHY you want to raise readers
  • how to nurture and protect your kids’ love of reading
  • why reading is not broccoli 🥦🤨

I also answer a listener question about… what to do when your kids lose interest part-way through a book…

Teaching from Rest: A Homeschooler’s Guide to Unshakable Peace

Teaching from Rest: A Homeschooler’s Guide to Unshakable Peace

FROM SARAH:

This was the first book I wrote—and I wrote it because I needed it myself. If you've ever felt overwhelmed or out of your depth in homeschooling (or parenting), I hope you'll read it. The audio book is an especially good price.

FROM THE PUBLISHER:

Those who have made the decision to homeschool their children have done so out of great love for them and a desire to provide them an excellent education in the context of a warm, enriching home. In this practical and faith-based book, Sarah Mackenzie addresses the possibility of teaching from rest and taking hold of the peace that transcends all understanding.

The Pleasures of Reading in an Age of Distraction

The Pleasures of Reading in an Age of Distraction

FROM SARAH:

Alan Jacobs is one of my very favorite nonfiction writers. I feel smarter after I've read them, and like my soul has been spiffed up, too. Don't miss my conversations with Alan Jacobs on the RAR Podcast: #145 The Importance of Reading at Whim and #163: A Reader's Guide to a More Tranquil Mind.

FROM THE PUBLISHER:

In recent years, cultural commentators have sounded the alarm about the dire state of reading in America. Americans are not reading enough, they say, or reading the right books, in the right way.
In this book, Baylor University Professor Alan Jacobs argues that, contrary to the doomsayers, reading is alive and well in America. And the best kind of reading of all is reading at whim.
