RAR #05: The Importance of Reading Aloud Imperfectly

We got to hear from Jim Weiss about tips and tricks for character voices and how to be skilled storytellers in episode 4 of the podcast. Now listen in as he tells us that it doesn’t need to be done perfectly (and why we shouldn’t even try to make it so). I was rather caught off guard by how inspiring and encouraging this conversation was. I know you’re going to love it. :)

In this episode, you’ll hear:

  • the increased value of reading aloud in an age of media overwhelm
  • using stories to teach morals
  • how to create lifelong learners instead of perfectionists

  1. I am just a beginner on your podcasts having just learned of them a month or so ago. I listened to this episode today. So great! I didn’t hear you mention http://www.thriftbooks.com
I am sure you know of it by now but just in case you didn’t I will let you know of it. Such a wonderful resource for used books. All orders of $10 and over have free shipping!
Can’t wait to keep listening to more….we are just finishing our first read aloud chapter book today with my kids and following it up with the movie tonight. (Charlotte’s Web)

    1. Perfect! Thanks for sharing Thrift Books…and make sure you listen to the bonus episode of the podcast with Melissa Sweet who just wrote a new book about E.B. White!

  2. Literally got teary-eyed at the end…we are HUGE fans of Jim Weiss – my dyslexic son spends hours a day listening to audios, including his. Loved the 1st part of this episode and SO THANKFUL you did not edit any of it out :)!

  3. Sarah! Thanks so much for everything. I just listened to your talk with Andrew Kern (from the Teaching from Rest companion) and it was so encouraging. I’m looking forward to this next Read Aloud Revival podcast. Ever since I listened to the first podcast, my family read-aloud time has increased exponentially and we are loving it. Thanks again!

  4. Well I didn’t expect to be crying at the end of this one! LOL This was so, so good. So encouraging on several different levels. This has been a really hard year for us in more than one area and this was just so encouraging!! Thank you for making these available at no cost. Changes in my husbands job has meant a big loss of income and I wouldn’t have been able to pay for these. So thank you!!!

  5. Wow!! I think this has been my favourite too! What a lovely, warm hearted and generous man. The whole podcast has been such an encouragement to me.

    For some time now
Benedict has gone through a phase of re reading favourites and shying away from new choices. As a result of once more reading aloud, he has expanded his repertoire and is enjoying both shared and alone time reading. Cannot wait for the next revival instalment.

    Blessings San x
