The Giver
FROM SARAH:
A haunting book that leaves you different than you were before you read it. This is a classic for a reason. I read it aloud with my older kids when they were about 17, 15, and 13. I recommend it for teens, though I think it's better to veer a bit older on this one, rather than reading it too young. Make sure to save time for discussions.
FROM THE PUBLISHER:
The Giver, the 1994 Newbery Medal winner, has become one of the most influential novels of our time. The haunting story centers on twelve-year-old Jonas, who lives in a seemingly ideal, if colorless, world of conformity and contentment. Not until he is given his life assignment as the Receiver.
