    This is the first book in Arnold Ytreeide’s fantastic Advent series, and it’s a read-aloud I return to again and again. Jotham’s Journey follows a young shepherd boy who becomes separated from his family. He sets off on a dangerous journey across ancient Israel… one that leads him straight into the story of the very first Christmas. I love that it invites us to consider the Christmas story (which we’ve heard a hundred times) with a fresh perspective.

    I do suggest previewing for sensitive readers. The story gets intense (first century Israel was quite violent). I tend to recommend this one for ages 10+.
