Truth is, I don't enjoy this book at all... and I really don't enjoy it as a read-aloud. But it shows up on a lot of high school booklists, so I did, in fact, read it aloud with some of my high schoolers. Make sure to follow it up with something hopeful, that tells the truth about who we are and Whose we are!
