One of my favorite things is meeting homeschool mamas at conferences.

I’ve been traveling to these conventions for years now, and it’s so interesting to me which questions pop up for us homeschooling mamas again and again.

For instance, not a single event passes without at least a few mamas asking some version of this question:

“Am I doing enough?

Why do we worry about this?

Well, as mamas, worrying is kind of what we do, right? So it’s natural to ask “Am I doing enough in my homeschool?

Time is Tricky

Another thing that comes up is time. Time is… well, it just feels like there’s just never quite enough of it, right?

We have so many roles in our home as parents (chef, driver, merry-maker, Laundry Boss, the person who calls the plumber, and on and on), and then we add homeschooling to that equation, and it feels like TOO MUCH.

We’ve taken on extra in our commitment to homeschool our kids.

Usually, we’ve done this gladly. We may have even felt called to it. But unfortunately, that doesn’t automatically make the days longer.

In Teaching From Rest, I put it this way:

“Take a hard look at the 168 hours in your week. Now consider your non-negotiables: sleep, eat, shower, pray. Plug in meal preparation, rest and church on Sunday and enough wind-down time at the end of each day to ensure a good night’s sleep. So what’s left? You don’t get any more than that, sister.”

But you know what? God knows just how much time we have (He’s the one who gave it to us in the first place).

He also knows about the abundance in our lives (He gave us those children, as well).

And that brings us back to our original question: given the constraints on my time and the abundance on my plate… how can I know if I’m doing enough?

Craving Peace

There are a few things that I want you to know today, right now.

Even if you…

  • Often find yourself craving peace…
  • Question whether you’re cut out for this homeschooling thing…
  • Think you’re worse at this than everyone else…

You absolutely can find peace that transcends all understanding in your homeschool.

It isn’t easy, but the formula is simpler than it might feel. The first step is remembering whose “well done” you’re working for.
